Tournament Design:
Boys Tournament Format
Teams will be placed into power pools based on their overall performance throughout the season. Pools A and B have the highest power rankings, followed by Pools C and D. However, all teams will have an opportunity to earn their way into the Gold Bracket based on their performance in pool play.
The tournament will consist of four pools with three teams each—two A-team pools and two B-team pools.

Gold Bracket Qualification:

The top two teams from each A & B pool will advance to the Gold Bracket and compete on Saturday for the tournament trophy.

The top team from each C & D pools will also advance to the Gold Bracket.

Silver Bracket Qualification:

The third-place team from the A & B pools will move down to the Silver Bracket.

The bottom two teams from the C & D pools will also move to the Silver Bracket.

Gold Bracket Seeding & Matchups:

The first-place teams from the A & B pools will receive a bye in the first round.

The second-place teams from the A & B pools will face the top teams from the C & D pools in the first round of the Gold Bracket.

Silver Bracket Seeding & Matchups:

The third-place team from both the A-team and B-team pool will receive a bye in the first round.

The bottom two teams from Pools C & D will play in the first round of the Silver Bracket.

This format ensures that every team has a path to the championship based on their pool play results.
Girls Tournament Format
Teams will be placed into two pools of four based on their overall performance throughout the season.

Gold Bracket (Championship Bracket):

The top two teams from each pool will advance to the Gold Bracket.

These teams will compete in a single-elimination format for the championship trophy.

Silver Bracket:

The bottom two teams from each pool will move to the Silver Bracket.

The Silver Bracket will also be a single-elimination tournament. However, the losing teams will play a consolation game.

This format ensures that all teams compete in meaningful games on Saturday while having an opportunity to contend for a bracket championship.
Game Format For Pool Play and Non-Trophy Bracket Play
*Only the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place teams in each Gold Bracket will receive a trophy.
All pool play games, and non-trophy Saturday bracket games, will follow this format:

Warm-Up:
-
Maximum 10-minute warm-up between games. The warm-up clock will start immediately after the previous teams shake hands.

Game Structure:
-
Two 10-minute halves.
-
Halftime: 3 minutes.
-
Overtime: 2 minutes.
-

Timeouts:
-
Each team gets two 30-second timeouts and one full timeout per game.

Fouls & Free Throws:
-
A team begins shooting two free throws at seven team fouls per half (resets in the second half).
-
A player fouls out at four fouls (not five).

Full-Length Games for Championship & 3rd Place Matches
The Championship Games and 3rd Place Games in both Gold Brackets will be played as full-length games, following the same format used during the regular season. NFHS rules apply.
Pool Standing Determination & Tie-Breakers
Pool standings will be determined using the following criteria:

Pool Record – Overall win-loss record in pool play.

LVM Points – (Refer to PDF document for the full procedure).
-
Lowest Points Allowed – The team that has given up the fewest total points in pool play.
-
Drawing of Lots – If a tie still exists after the above criteria, a random draw will determine placement.

*On the boys’ side, A & B pools are always considered higher seeds than C & D, regardless of number.

Both trophy games will follow the standard MCL Junior High format: 7-minute quarters, a 5-minute halftime, and a bonus awarded on the 5th team foul each quarter. Each player is allowed five fouls.
Boys Silver Bracket

Both trophy games will follow the standard MCL Junior High format: 7-minute quarters, a 5-minute halftime, and a bonus awarded on the 5th team foul each quarter. Each player is allowed five fouls.
